Features Parma, Modena and Bologna with excursions to visit local food production sites and the surrounding countryside to see first hand the many sources of the ingredients so important for great Italian food and wine.
Sometimes termed as the “back door” to Italy, naturally we feature the 5 villages, which at times can be overlooked for the culinary assets – but the region provides excellent wines and its seafood specialties to create the true Mediterranean menu.
Known for both its great wines and unique food menus, the region offers a pure contrast as the third stop in the program. Certainly the city of Torino is a part of the itinerary, but the Alba Truffle festival is also an important feature.
Below we have outlined the program over the 10 days, 9 nights.
Day 1: Arrive to Parma – City Tour
Arrive to Parma via your private transfer and to check in to your hotel accommodations. Later in the afternoon your guide will meet you at the hotel and take you on an introduction city tour – highlights will include Palazzo Pilotta, Teatro Farnese, the Cathedral, Battistero, and Teatro Regio. For the evening, dinner reservations at a favorite restaurant. (D, W)
Day 2: Parma – Food Valley Tour
Morning breakfast and then your day offers a guided tour to the regions famous Parma ham, balsamic vinegar farm (acetaia) and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese production factories. This will be a full day, complete with lunch at a local winery. Afterwards, return to your accommodations and take the evening at your leisure. (B, L, W)
Day 3: Parma – Modena – Bologna
Morning breakfast and then your day will offer an excursion to Modena and Bologna. Each city offers unique historical centers; for Modena – the Duomo, Piazza Grande, Mercato Coperto; for Bologna – walking tour, lunch and tasting the typical food products of the city. (B, L, W)
Day 4: Cinque Terre
Morning breakfast and then you will depart for the Cinque Terre by motor coach. Once arrived in the 5T you will have the time to check into your hotel then spend time to discover the famous walking paths and panoramic views. Afterwards a visit to a local enoteca wine bar for first tasting of the local wines, then a welcome dinner at a favorite restaurant. (B, D, W)
Day 5: Cinque Terre – Full Day Tour
Morning breakfast at your hotel and then time to meet your guide to embark in the morning by either the local train providing you the opportunity to stop at the different villages at your leisure. At one of the villages, your stop will allow time for lunch at a typical local osteria. Your Train Card will allow you to connect between the villages and then take the train connection for the return to your hotel at your leisure. (B, L, W)
Day 6: Transfer to Villa in Piemonte
May tour dates: Morning breakfast and then departure to a countryside hotel villa outside of Alba. Hotel check in and time to relax; before wine tasting with the villa’s own wine; then in the evening a welcome dinner at the villa restaurant. (B, D, W)
Day 7: Winery w/ Lunch)
Morning breakfast, then a full day excursion in the surrounding countryside to local winery/food farm, lunch at the winery and then after visit to more local product production facilities. Late in the day, return to the villa and dinner at your leisure. (B, L, W)
Day 8: Alba Truffle Festival
Morning breakfast and then you will venture to Alba for a full day to experience the White Truffle Festival. The festival is fully enriched with the food and wine products of the Piemonte region. With either itinerary you will eventually return to your hotel (or the villa) where the evening is yours to relax. (B, L, W)
Day 9: Day in Torino
This last day will be spent in Torino; a city tour and then free time to explore on your own. Later in the day, return to the villa and final dinner. (B, D)
Day 10: Departure
Breakfast at the hotel and check out; your transfer will take you to the Torino airport. (B)
